Poměr Google:Bing je cca 30:1, statistiky jsou víceméně stabilní (po počátečním nárůstu Bing, který byl dán reklamní kampaní za 100 milionů dolarů).
Dle níže uvedené studie City Group a názorů analytiků to znamená, že 20 procentní rozdíl v kvalitě hledacího algoritmu mezi Google a Bing způsobuje propastný rozdíl v návštěvnosti hledačů.

Algoritmus Google vymysleli Larry Page and Sergey Brin, studenti na Stanford University, v roce 1995, jsou též nazýváni "Google Guys", v češtině „Gúgláci“ . Článek publikovali v roce 1996.
Základem byl PageRank, který byl založen na zpětných lincích. Ovšem v té době již tento princip existoval, dokonce realizovaný na malém hledači Rankdex, vymyslel ho Li Yanhong. Google původně psali v garáži, jel na serveru Standfordu, vývoj financovaly pravděpodobně rodiny studentů.
Tehdejší technické řešení bylo poměrně jednoduché, protože dle odhadu měl tehdy Internet cca 10 milionů WWW stránek (dnes jich má přes bilion). Gúgláci nechtěli realizovat světový hledač, ale prodat jejich technologii jinému hledači. Oslovili hledače, ale byli odmítnuti, nikdo jim nevěřil (ani Yahoo). První větší investici do Google získali Gúgláci v roce 1998, výše investice byla 100 tisíc dolarů, investor Andy Bechtolsheim, co-founder Sun Microsystems. Podle mne ovšem zásadní zásluha Gúgláků nespočívá v PageRanku, ale v tom, že ukázali směr vývoje, totiž že hledač jsou lepší než seznamy (katalogy).

Jedná se o názor uživatele hledačů. Tohle je také názor analytiků a přesně můj názor. O uživatelnosti hledačů rozhoduje primárně kvalita hledání, tedy pořadí nalezených výsledků (linků).

„Googl jsem používal hned od začátku. Nejvíce si nan něm cením toho že lze pomocí příkazů řídit způsob vyhledávání, i když dnes je to oproti minulosti celkem chabé a navíc příkazy jsou špatně nebo vůbec zdokumentované.
V určitém období Google přestal staré příkazy pro vyhledávání již úplně zpracovávat a choval se, z mého hlediska, jak ho napadlo. V té době jsem používal Jyxo.cz, to má ale zaindexováno čím dál měnší část Webu, takže dnes mi často nenajde vůbec nic.
Dnes jsem zpátky u Googlu, ale popravdě spolu občas bojujeme. Nejsem třeba schopný pořádně ovlivnit řazení výsledků. Příklad: I když napíši, že hledám NĚCO, spolu s "$OEM$" (v uvozovkách), tak první stránka obsahuje jen "OEM" (znak $ je ignorován). Vůbec, Google si občas pořadí slov v hledaných frázích přehazuje jak ho naspadne. Příkaz NEBO někdy ignoruje zcela. Ale je stále to nejlepší co je dnes k dispozici... (pozn.: Pro vyhledávání zadávám zpravidla 3-6 klíčových slov.)
Bing, Seznam, a spol jsou dobré jen pokud vám stačí napsat pro vyhledávání jen jedno slovo. Navíc Bing Translator, to je nefunkční katastrofa.“

A new report suggests that Microsoft is losing $1 billion a quarter on Bing, its search engine, with total losses so far reaching $5.5 billion. This is according to CNN Money, which has gotten its calculator out and totted up the total losses Microsoft has made on Bing and revealed that the company's online search division has never actually made a profit. According to CNN, since it started revealing the finances of the unit in 2007 it has made a total loss of $9 billion.

GNU C/C++ Compiler

Intel C++ Compiler for Linux Non-Commercial Version

The Intel C++ compiler has a non-commercial version for Linux which you may use to develop your programs for non-commercial purposes (read their licence for more information). The optimizing ANSI C/C++ compiler supports all Intel 32 bit processors and the 64 bit Itanium processor.

Tiny C Compiler - Smallest Linux C Compiler

This small Linux and Windows C compiler generates optimized x86 native binaries. It purportedly compiles, assembles and links several times faster than GCC. The compiler is currently moving towards ISO C99 compliance. It also includes an optional bounds checker. It also handles C script files (just add the shebang line "#!/usr/local/bin/tcc -run" to the first line of your C source code file on Linux to have it executed directly. TCC is distributed under the GNU General Public License.

CINT C and C++ Interpreter
This is a C/C++ interpreter that comes with source code. It can be compiled and used on a large variety of Unices, including HP-UX, Solaris, SunOS, AIX, Alpha/OSF, FreeBSD and Linux, as well as Windows NT. You can even issue system calls from the interpreter (such as Posix calls on Unix or Windows API calls from Windows). It accepts most of K&R and ANSI C and is close to the standard C++ (at the time of this writing). As with all interpreters, it may be useful in debugging programs or learning the language.

UPS Debugger (C Interpreter)

This is actually a graphical source level debugger for X Window, but it contains a built in C interpreter which can handle single or multiple source files. You can use it to build a byte-code executable and execute the interpreter on that executable. If you need an interpreter to debug or prototype programs, or to just learn the language, check this out. It supports the following platforms: Solaris, SunOS, Linux, FreeBSD, BSD/OS, and possibly other Unices.

The .NET Framework (pronounced dot net) is a software framework for Microsoft Windows operating systems. It includes a large library, and it supports several programming languages which allows language interoperability (each language can use code written in other languages). The framework's Base Class Library provides user interface, data access, database connectivity, cryptography, web application development, numeric algorithms, and network communications. The class library is used by programmers, who combine it with their own code to produce applications.
Programs written for the .NET Framework execute in a software (as contrasted to hardware) environment, known as the Common Language Runtime (CLR). The CLR is an application virtual machine so that programmers need not consider the capabilities of the specific CPU that will execute the program. The CLR also provides other important services such as security, memory management, and exception handling. The class library and the CLR together constitute the .NET Framework.
The .NET Framework is intended to be used by most new applications created for the Windows platform. To develop new applications, software developers must also install Microsoft's SDK for Windows 7 or .NET Framework 4 (or newer) or Visual Studio 2010.

In the meanwhile I confirm that Btrfs design is completely broken: records stored in the B-tree differ greatly from each other (it is unacceptable!), and the balancing algorithms have been modified in insane manner. All these factors has led to loss of *all* boundaries holding internal fragmentation and to exhaustive waste of disk space (and memory!) in spite of the property "scaling in their ability to address large storage.

It seems that nobody have reviewed Btrfs before its inclusion to the mainline. I have only found a pair of recommendations with a common idea that Btrfs maintainer is "not a crazy man". Plus a number of papers which admire with the "Btrfs phenomena". Sigh.

Well, let's decide what can we do in current situation.. The first obvious point here is that we *can not* put such file systém to production. Just because it doesn't provide any guarantees for our users regarding disk space utilization.

What is the maximum size for a row, a table, and a database?

These are the limits:

Maximum size for a database? unlimited (32 TB databases exist)

Maximum size for a table? 32 TB

Maximum size for a row? 400 GB

Of course, these are not actually unlimited, but limited to available disk space and memory/swap space. Performance may suffer when these values get unusually large.

The maximum table size of 32 TB does not require large file support from the operating system. Large tables are stored as multiple 1 GB files so file system size limits are not important.

The maximum table size, row size, and maximum number of columns can be quadrupled by increasing the default block size to 32k. The maximum table size can also be increased using table partitioning.

One limitation is that indexes can not be created on columns longer than about 2,000 characters. Fortunately, such indexes are rarely needed. Uniqueness is best guaranteed by a function index of an MD5 hash of the long column, and full text indexing allows for searching of words within the column.

Nový robot dostal do vínku současnou ostrou databázi, kterou už 2 měsíce občerstvuje, donedávna ji však dále nerozšiřoval. Od minulého týdne si sám hledá i nové dokumenty, vybírá ty, které se mu zdají zajímavé. Z nacrawlovaných dat vyrábí hledací databázi a výsledky již interně srovnáváme se současným hledáním.
A nyní nahlédneme trochu pod pokličku. Robot je založen na technologiích z projektu Hadoop, především na souborovém systému HDFS, frameworku pro distribuované výpočty Map/Reduce a NoSQL úložišti HBase. Hadoop technologii jsme zvolili po průzkumu dostupných možností, zásadními faktory byl otevřený kód, výborná škálovatelnost a samozřejmě výkon. Jako každá nová technologie, i tahle má ještě své mouchy a tak vyladění stability a výkonu námi napsaných aplikací se ukázalo jako nejvíc problematické.
